Toddler Approved Healthy Fruit + Veggie Snacks

Last Updated on May 17, 2023 by Gabby Hatten

If your toddlers are anything like mine, chances are they are painfully picky. We decided to truly be conscious of everything we consume, and that meant eliminating food coloring, among many other things. Fruit snacks are a staple for any happy kiddo, so I knew I wanted to make a healthy version, that I could feel good about giving my children.

Let your littles indulge in a guilt-free and delicious treat with our healthy fruit snack recipe. Made with real fruit juice and minimal ingredients, these homemade gummies are a nutritious alternative to store-bought options. With their vibrant colors and delightful flavors, these gummies are not only a hit with kids but also a delightful snack for adults. Whether you’re looking for a healthier sweet treat or a fun activity to do with the family, our easy-to-follow recipe will guide you in creating these delightful and wholesome fruit (and veggie) gummies.

My favorite thing about this recipe is how quick it is to whip up! It’s one of those staples that my kids can help make, without making too much of a mess. We make sure to keep a mason jar full in the fridge at all times. The other best part? The flavor combinations are endless! It’s the easiest way to sneak in vegetables for picky eaters.

Equipment

  • juicer (optional)
  • 3+ Silicone Gummy Mold
  • whisk
  • sauce pan

Ingredients

  • 2 Cup fresh fruit juice (if you don't have a juicer, you can choose an organic juice from the grocery store)
  • 4 tbsp grass-fed gelatin
  • 1-2 tbsp raw honey optional

Instructions

  • In a small saucepan, heat the fresh fruit juice over low heat until warm. Do not bring it to a boil.
  • Gradually sprinkle the gelatin powder over the warm juice while whisking continuously to prevent clumps from forming.
  • Continue whisking until the gelatin is completely dissolved and the mixture is smooth.
  • If you prefer a sweeter gummy snack, you can add honey or maple syrup to the mixture and whisk until well combined.
  • Remove the saucepan from the heat and let the mixture cool for a few minutes.
  • Pour the mixture into silicone molds or a shallow dish lined with parchment paper.
  • Place the molds or dish in the refrigerator and let them set for at least 2-4 hours, or until the gummies are firm and fully set.
  • Once set, remove the gummies from the molds or cut them into desired shapes if using a dish.
  • Store the fruit gummies in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week.

What’s in a name?

Well, a lot of things! Whether you’re fresh on a homesteading journey or simply on your way to a healthier lifestyle, cutting out artificial dye is one of the biggest steps! If you have not yet done any research, I highly suggest taking some time to sit down and google your heart away.
